Aruna Dindane on his way to a hat-trick against Wigan on Saturday

Congratulations to Aruna Dindane for scoring his first, second and third goals in a Portsmouth shirt this weekend.

To many who have watched him this season it may have come as a surprise that the Frenchman was capable of netting a hat-trick in the Premier League, but regular subscribers will know different.

It was only a couple of weeks ago when tipping Pompey to win that I suggested that there was a glut of goals to come from the Frenchman.

Last weekend’s tips, which came in at a profitable £567 to a £100 stake, highlighted perfectly how the bets you avoid are just as pivotal to making a profit as those you pick.

In fact, the point was proved unequivocally by Friday night when the majority of tipping services where dented by QPR’s loss at home to Leicester.

And the tipping bankers kept falling, thick and fast.

Up next were Stoke in the Premier League who lost their first game to a non top four side since West Ham beat them in the middle of last season.

Meanwhile, they were dropping like flies in the Championship. Bristol City were held by Sheff Wed, Preston couldn’t beat Palace at home, Boro had a shocker at home to Plymouth as new boss Gordon Strachan looked in horror.

In League Two, followers of leaders Bournemouth watched their side lose 4-0 at home, third place Dagenham failed to win at home to Port Vale, while Notts County also drew at home – to Shrewsbury.

What strikes me about all of these home bankers is that a case could have been made against all of them. Looking at people’s tipping patterns – both professionals and amateurs – I remain convinced that too much emphasis is placed on the price.

People still use the bookies price as a guide to a team’s prices. This is a fundamental error. The bookies price is a market offer and therefore is an indication of other customers’ opinions on a match.

If you consider that around 98% of all gamblers are losers, it seems a bit stupid being blindly led by a bunch of losers.

Best off listening to people who know a bit about this stuff – but I would say that, wouldn’t I?

Good luck this week, don’t forget it’s Champions League this week. Expect something first thing Tuesday morning if you’re a subscriber.
