But don’t worry: it’s real easy to unsubscribe, making footbet one of the most easy to use tipping websites on the internet.

The one that got away

Totting up last month’s tips (they’ll all be on the website this week) brought me back to one of the most remarkable results of the year – that 4-4 draw between Peterborough and Cardiff. We tipped 5pts on Cardiff at a very good price and looked quids in when they went 4-0 up. But an amazing comeback scuppered our bet.

It brought to mind the value of laying off bets when they look cast iron. The odds on a Cardiff win on Betfair were so small at 4-0 a hefty sum against the Bluebirds could have not only covered the bet but also garnered a profit 100 times our projected win profit if theobvious had come to pass.

It is always worth considering when you look home and hosed.

African Nations Cup

The Africans have left the Premier League teams to their own devices over the next month, and their absence is likely to prove significant at both ends of the table.

Chelsea’s African stars have been the major talking point, but other teams could struggle just as much if not more.

Be careful of Arsenal this month. While they only lose two players one of them is perhaps the most significant – Alex Song. This season, the Cameroon international has bought the solidity to the middle of the park that Arsenal have been lacking. Unless they find an alternative between now and the middle of February, it could scupper their title ambitions.

Tottenham and Liverpool have perhaps the most to gain from the exodus to the African Nations Cup, and should be  backed this month.

Administration looms

It is looking increasingly bleak for Portsmouth this season after their players were not paid on time for the third time since August. With the tax man looming, and still firmly rooted to the bottom of the league, the south coast club may decide to become the first Premier League club to enter Administration. It would make sense if safety become increasingly unlikely because a ten-point deduction in the Championship next season could see the club disappear into oblivion.

Have a good week everyone!
