Italian Serie A
Fixture: Sampdoria 1-1 Inter Milan
Venue: Stadio Luigi Ferraris (Sampdoria home)
Kick-off: 7.30pm BST, Saturday
Verdict: It is a tough opener for new Internazionale coach Jose Mourinho, but he should come through it with flying colours, as he always does. So far, Mourinho has inherited a stronger squad to last season's champions with the arrival of Amantino Mancini and Sulley Muntari. They will be wary of starting too slowly as bitter rivals Milan have bought ambitiously this season and are likely to push them all the way.
Betting Advice: 2pts Inter to win at 20/21 (1.83 at Bet Direct and Stan James)
Fixture: Fiorentina 1-1 Juventus
Venue: Stadio Artemio Franchi (Fiorentina home)
Kick-off: 7.30pm BST, Sunday
Verdict: Another team that will push Inter all the way to the wire this season is Juventus. The bianconeri are back in the Champions League just two seasons after dropping to Serie B on the back of financial irregularities. Now they are back with a strong squad and likely to challenge early desperate to prove that they can win a title "without help".
Betting Advice: 3pts Juventus to win at 9/5 (2.8 at Bet Direct and Stan James)
French Ligue 1
Fixture: Marseille 2-1 Sochaux
Venue: Stade Velodrome (Marseille home)
Kick-off: 8pm BST, Saturday
Verdict: Things are beginning to pan out in the French premier league, which is why I'm going to stick with Marseille as one to follow. They won in Europe in midweek and are on for three out of three wins on the trot in the league in the hopeful pursuit of Lyon's title against a Sochaux with only one point so far this season.
Betting Advice: 5pts Marseille to win at 6/11 (1.55 at Canbet.com)
Spanish La Liga
Fixture: Deportivo La Coruna 2-1 Real Madrid
Venue: Estadio Municipal de Riazor (La Coruna home)
Kick-off: 8pm BST, Sunday
Verdict: An interesting price this one as back-to-back La Liga champions are second favourites to win on the first day of the season. It has a lot to do with the fact that Deportivo La Coruna are a real bogey team for Real Madrid beating them 11 times in 16 meetings. But these kind of runs are made to be broken and there is no better time to do so that at the start of a new season. Especially considering this Madrid side is better than the last two seasons.
Betting Advice: 2pts Real Madrid to win at 11/10 (2.1 generally)
German Bundesliga
Fixture: Bayer Leverkusen 5-2 Hoffenheim
Venue: Bay-Arena (Leverkusen home)
Kick-off: 2.30pm BST, Saturday
Verdict: After a dream start to their first ever season in the Bundesliga, Hoffenheim will come back down to earth with a bump this weekend. The new boys are no longer a novelty and Bayer Leverkusen will be wary of them. It is also worth noting that Hoffenheim are yet to play any of the big teams and this might be a real test for them. Bayer have had a tough start to the season, but a sound win against Stuttgart last week has them back on track.
Betting Advice: 3pts Bayer Leverkusen to win at 8/11 (1.72 at Skybe
