League One
Colchester P-P Brentford
KO: 7.45pm (GMT)
Venue: Community Stadium
Verdict: Brentford are no shabby side, granted, but I am left wondering at the incredibly generous price from Victor Chandler on third-placed Colchester winning this game. Could it really be simply because they are such a small club they are likely to be friendless in any betting market? Colchester are third for a reason - they beat Oldham 1-0 at the weekend to go within a point of Leeds - this is a team that knows how to win when it is not playing well, a fact borne out by the statistic that they have won three out of the last four by tight margins. They have no injury winners and, let's not forget, a number of players who played in the Championship.
Get the price as quick as you can.
Advice: 4pts Colchester to win at 11/10 (2.1 at Victor Chandler)
Treble: Leeds 2-0 Oldham; Norwich 2-1 Southend; Swindon 4-1 Stockport
KO: all 7.45pm (GMT)
Venue: various
Verdict: OK, let's try this again alongside a reason why the treble has become a tool in our artillery this season. Two seasons ago, it was suggested that there was a big gap between the haves and have nots in the Championship, which was perceived to be mainly down to the money trickling down via parachute payments to the Championship. Now that gap - or at least a visible gap for some other reason - is appearing quite vividly in League One. At the top are sides that have, or at least have the wherewithal to mount a sustained challenge at the top. At the bottom are a bunnch of Raggedy Anns. The three I'm picking in this treble are definitely haves: Leeds are huge, Norwich get 22,000 season ticket holders in every game, and swindon have spent money. Their opponents are skint.
Advice: 4pts Leeds, Norwich and swindon all to win at about 4.77 (generally)
League Two
Darlington P-P Notts County
KO: 7.45pm (GMT)
Venue: The Arena
Verdict: Talking of haves and have nots, this is a real game of two sides with vastly differing fortunes. Notts County's season has been well documented, but poor old Darlington have been left at the bottom, alone and adrift for quite a time now. They are forced to play every week in a huge brand new stadium that has crippled them financially and left them where they are today. They have managed to win two games in their last 12, which is a vast improvement on earlier in the season, but still they are odds on to go down. Notts County, meanwhile, are in the play-off places and have up to five games in hand on some rivals, which puts them into the mix for an automatic promotion spot.
Which should be the minimal requirement considering their expensive-looking (for this level) squad.
Advice: 3pts Notts County to win at 11/10 (2.1 generally)
