January was pretty much snowed off this year, and that meant very slim pickings for punters. With fewer matches to choose from, we found it hard to put together any kind of form - and that is why we only came up with a small profit in January (£227). But profit it was, thanks to a reasonably solid performance in the English leagues, where the resurgence of Shrewsbury was a highlight. Europe, too, was a profitable stamping ground. We went heavy on the form found by Stuttgart under new boss Christian Gross - and made hay against Juventus while the Old Lady continued to suffer with her form, particularly away from home. Meanwhile, on top of the snow, the Premier League was further decimated by the third round of the FA Cup, which took away at least one weekend of top flight action.
